What Is A Gel Manicure?
Gel manicures use a special type of polish which reacts to UV light by hardening and adhering to your natural nail. This polish is applied just like ordinary nail varnish, but after each coat it will be ‘cured’ under a UV light for around a minute. You can expect a gel manicure to take around 30 - 60 minutes.
How Long Should a Gel Manicure Last?
A gel manicure should last around 2 weeks.
How Do I Remove Gel Nail Polish?
Gel nail polish needs to be removed carefully to avoid nail damage. Your nails will need to be soaked in acetone for 10-15 minutes so the polish can soften before being removed with a special tool or orange stick. Of course, you can book in for removal at the salon or spa if you want the process handled professionally.
What Are the Benefits of a Gel Manicure?
Gel manicures are extremely popular because they’re long lasting, chip-resistant and have a high-shine finish. They’re also cured by the end of the treatment so there’s no additional drying time. There are a multitude of colours available so you can choose anything from natural to bold or even sparkly. If you’re a nail art fan, gel manicures are the perfect treatment – glitter and crystals will adhere very well to gel manicures.

Know Before You Go
Before you get a gel manicure, you should be aware that while this type of treatment will leave you with beautifully glossy nails, there are a few things to look out for. Firstly, gel manicures are typically more expensive than other types of manicure. There is also the upkeep factor: if you want your nails to look their best, you will need to visit your manicurist regularly (every 4 weeks). During the removal process, damage to your nail bed can occur. It is also unhealthy to regularly exposure your hands to UV light. So do your research and find a manicurist who can answer all your questions and decide which manicure option is best for you!
